Today, Pilar
Alonso, the responsable for the counselling and innovation department of the Gaudem School
came to our class to explain us what her role is at school.
In this school,
diversity is focused on deaf students and special needs: problems related to
language, autism, high achievement and development difficulties.
The main problem
that she found was the lack of ethic. She said that because in her opinion,
everyone want to attend diversity, everyone want to give an inclusive education…
but for doing that we have to know how to do it, to learn about it, we have
lots of theory but practice is another thing.
For Pilar, there
is not an only model, there are much of them. She focuses on the inclusive
model, she does not want to substitute any teacher, she is just a supportive
agent for them but teachers are those who deal with diversity.
At Gaudem
school, children are not taken out of the classroom to be evaluated, it is done
in very few times. In these occasions, child is firstly evaluated inside the
classroom to observe how he or she acts on the class context. For doing it,
specialists and teachers based on the principles of permanence, participation
and learning. These are not adaptations, they only eliminate classroom barriers
in order to make these children able to learn inside it.
I really like
that Pilar came to our class because is good to know the point of view of a
real counsellor, as she said, theory is one thing and practice is another one
so this experience, a real experience, is going to be good for our future job.
Here you have
the Power Point Presentation she used to show some clue points:
